Willie Dixon is to Chicago Blues what cream is to coffee or smoke is to fire. Many of his songs and production work behind Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, Otis Rush a.m.o., along with his bass playing on their recordings are the backbone of many of Chess and Checker hits. Many Chicago Blues artist's biggest hits have been songs written by Willie. Willie was immortalized in the 1960's when groups like the Doors covered his "Back Door Man" and Cream covered his "Spoonful" while Jonny Rivers recorded his "Seventh Son". It seemed everyone was hip to Willie Dixon from Led Zeppelin to the Grateful Dead. Willie was such a sweet humble man who was rather soft spoken but had a way of saying with three words what took most people a whole conversation. Willie loved helping others to make it and helped launch many a career for people who are legends still today like Otis Rush, Buddy Guy a.m.o. Right up to the end Willie continued to do what he loved best: perform. This CD, featuring him in concert in 1991 in Long Beach, California, is a prime example of that.
