Sonja Asselhofen was born in Berlin and lives today near Cologne . After having passed the Abitur she studied with Prof. Jankovic and Prof. Claus Kanngießer at the conservatories in Würzburg and Cologne. After the artistic examination (summa cum laude) and concert exams in her principal subject violoncello she continued studying chamber music with her piano trio “trio panta rhei” in the master class of Anthony Spiri (a former assistant of Nicolaus Harnoncourt) and of the Alban Berg String Quartett. These studies she also finished with concert exams. She used to be scholarship student of the Carl Flesch Academy in Baden-Baden and award winner in the conservatory competitions in Würzburg and Cologne. She absolved several violoncello master classes with Wolfgang Boettcher, Anner Bylsmer, Martin Lovett and Gustav Rivinius. She completed her artistic education by attending numerous chamber music master classes, for example those of the piano trio “Trio Fontenay” , the Amadeus - , Alban Berg and Cherubini String Quartett and by having tuitions with the famous composer and conductor Peter Eötvös. She played concert tours in Europe and the USA and performed at the Schubertiade Feldkirch, the Hitzacker and Homburger chamber music days and in the Music Summer in Rhineland-Palatinate . Recordings of her playing were made at BR, SR, WDR. The second CD of her piano trio “Trio panta rhei”, with pieces of Gershwin, Bernstein, Kapustin and Schnyder was shortly released at ARS Production.
