Like any other day, Little Eve went from school to the pastry shop to help her aunty to do the dishes. Suddenly, the officers from the trade authority stormed the pastry shop. Little Eve heard Achmed pleading „please wait for a moment“, noticed how her aunt was struggling for words, listened to the falling down chairs, saw deep blue in the eyes of her aunty Greta as well as first tears and a silent excuse. She heard a foreign voice shouting „Stop“, from the corner of her eye spotted the back and hair of her aunty when she turned to the backdoor, while hands holding down Achmed and a uniform running behind aunt Greta.
Little Eve opened the cap of the chest freezer, picked her school bag, climbed in the deep freezer and closed it. Afterwards it became dark and cool. She could hear the voices cushioned.
When Eve did not hear any voices anymore and shivered of cold, she decided to count until thousand. This would warm her and appease her nerves, and than, after ninehundredninetysix, ninehundredninetyseven, ninehundredninetyeight it would probably be safe enough to climb out the deep freezer again.
Little Eve started to count. It was so cold. Sometime after sevenhundred she supposed seeing a light. When she opened her eyes the light dimmed, when she squinted her eyes it became lighter and more intense. Reaching eighthundredandforty she heard tinker bells. Then again by eighthundredfortyfour, and then by eighthundredfortyeight and so on in 4 digit intervals, she heard gentle tinker bells.
Reaching ninehundredthirty it suddenly became bright. Much brighter than all those little lights produced by squinting her eyes. Eve feared that the bright light would fade-out and hesitated to open her eyes again. Then she cautiously blinked. Two soft dark noses, four deep brown eyes! Four hairy ears! Four snow shovel shaped antlers, and behind much more, uncountable more branched antlers!
Little Eve climbed out the chest freezer. Her left knee buckled under her. Unnoticed by her, it has been sleeping. She petted the two reindeers, simultaneously, each with one hand. She revolved, took her school bag from the deep freezer, put it on her shoulder and took a seat on the reindeer which was slightly larger and stronger than the other one. Then they all galloped home singing this song.
